Well, Mr. Limbaugh, you've got your work cut out for you to keep GW in the drivers seat, and sucking up to the troops just ain't gonna make it. ...

El Rushbo fails at damage control by Leon Fisher August 19, 2003
Rush Limbaugh, the self styled "Doctor Of Democracy" has once again put his foot in his mouth. His timing could not be worse.
Several weeks ago he tried to downplay the deaths of US soldiers in Iraq by comparing them to statistics compiled by the CDC (Center For Disease Control ) and the Annual Report On Highway Fatalities."On a daily basis, on average, 10 Americans die by drowning, and nine Americans die by fire in their homes. 14 Americans die by pedestrian accidents. 27 Americans die in falls. On average, 50 Americans a day are murdered. 118 die in auto accidents, and 25 people die from AIDS every day, on average. Yesterday, two Americans died in battle in Iraq." Rush Limbaugh This tactic is nothing new. It has always been used by those who have an interest in prolonging an illegal or unpopular war, usually to profit the Military Industrial Complex. The Vietnam War was a perfect example. Not surprisingly this tactic failed, just as it failed thirty odd years ago.
Realizing that even the knuckleheads, sorry I mean the Ditto heads were offended by his cold and impersonal view of the military death toll, the Dean of Advanced Conservative Studies has made an abrupt about face. Like Saul on the road to Damascus El Rushbo has had a revelation. Hallelujah! These statistics it seems, are really human beings to Rush after all.
But not only have these human beings, the men and women of our military been put in harm's way, they are also being financially ripped off by the same crowd in Washington that Mr. Limbaugh is always praising. It has been a well known fact for some time now that the Bush Administration is planning on slashing benefits for both active duty military and veterans. El Rushbo must have been away at a golf tournament at the time, as he never mentioned this while speaking into his golden EIB microphone.
The latest insult to our fighting men and women was a plan to scale back hazardous duty pay for those troops serving in war zones. But because of the resulting uproar from the public here at home and within the ranks themselves, the Pentagon will keep hazardous duty pay at the present level.
Getting back to Mr. Limbaugh's conversion from an armchair general to that of a concerned advocate for the common grunt, Rush has even gone so far as to point out the huge disparity in pay and benefits of congressmen and senators compared to that of the average soldier. Strong stuff coming from a man whose number one priority has been to further the interests of the powerful and wealthy by way of the Republican Party.
Why is the Propaganda Minister for the Bush Administration behaving like this? I think I have the answer.
After successful starts, the wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq have now bogged down into growing guerilla wars. It is no secret that the troops in the field are becoming more and more disgruntled with the deteriorating situation in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and with the leadership which ordered them there. Military families are forming organizations to put pressure on the Pentagon and the President to bring the troops home. Articles are even beginning to appear in military publications critical of military and political policy, something which has never happened before. This all comes on the heels of disclosures that the Bush Administration knowingly and openly lied about the alleged Weapons Of Mass Destruction. Not even the Maha Rushie was able to explain that one away.
With the election drawing near, the economy is no better in fact it is getting worse. The Army is tied down in an increasingly bloody fight in the Middle East, with billions of taxpayer dollars a month squandered. And The War On Terrorism has only resulted in alienating our friends and creating a legion of new enemies. And now an energy problem blacked out a good part of the country.
Well, Mr. Limbaugh, you've got your work cut out for you to keep GW in the drivers seat, and sucking up to the troops just ain't gonna make it. They know that the Chickenhawk Neo-Con crowd in Washington, along with the help of your big mouth, has gotten them into this mess. They know it's for the oil. You can try to blame the Liberals with half your brain tied behind your back. It has always worked before but it may not work this time, as things are getting worse instead of better.
Its gonna be a hard sell, cause the crowd you shill for just ain't delivering. But don't lose the faith, Rush, with a little luck and a lotta corporate cash, with the help of the knuckleheads, some voting irregularities, and the Supreme Court, your boy just might get back in again.
